Monk's Mound is the largest earthwork north of Mexico and is nine to ten stories tall. The day we were there, it was busy with many visitors, and one man was exercising, running up and down the steps.

Criel Mound - South Charleston, West Virginia

This large mound is in a park surrounded by a very busy urban area. There are several historical markers displaying information about the site and the Adena culture.

Ais Mound - Fort Pierce, Florida

February 2023

The single mound is set a grove of palms and live oaks overlooking the Indian River Lagoon. Visiting the nearby St. Lucie County Aquarium gave me an appreciation of the rich ecosystem in the area.
